It has been quite the month.
I can never completely encapsulate how wonderful Mexico City is. There are few places I have been that have felt this kinetic, so charged with energy, potential, and hope. There are, of course, layers of personal frustration, of deep sadness, of homesickness, but despite any turbulent wave that comes, I am constantly reminded of beauty.
Between moving to a new apartment and attempting to maintain a social life for mental well-being, maintaining my responsibilities has proven to be a fascinating challenge.
Unfortunately, between sipping a café de olla with a friend or finishing up a video for Youtube, I have been known to choose the first. Because I’m new here still, I justify it.
But, dear friends, I want to share something important with you. This is something I have been putting all my love and attention to since October.
There have been several hiccups in my life since I started. I had an injury in October, as some of you may remember, which left me unable to walk until November, and had half my body (legs, arms, and face) numb until January. I was constantly fearful that I would re-injure myself, and it severely impacted my quality of life.
For now, I want to share something I’ve been working on since a bit before I injured myself. It has been one of the most difficult things to finish. I am constantly adding and subtracting. I am trying my hardest to find a balance between being detailed with the education, but also delivering it in bite-sized, digestible pieces.
Writing this has been a beautiful experience. I am even planning on making a Japanese version! But for now, the English version will take the stage.
I am finally finishing up, and the release is soon. The date for it will come shortly, and I would love to keep everyone updated.
Here is what you will be updated on:
・The interview for the book launch.
My twin sister and I will be hosting an Instagram Live to promote the book, talk about the content, why I decided to write it, and how it can help you with your own creative work.
・Three Weeks of Creativity Online Workshop
The first 30 people who purchase the book (digital version) will be invited to participate in a 3-week art practice challenge. We will meet once a week via Zoom and work along with the book. This is only available once.
・The In-Person Book Launch
I will be hosting an in-person launch here in Mexico City. Dates and locations for it will be provided.
I have felt many things these past few weeks, I don’t want to bore you with the negative, but navigating this period of my life has had me crying in the shower on any given day, and sitting in a daze, wondering what my next steps will be. The waves have been hitting hard, but fortunately, I know how to swim.
Today has been my first day at my new apartment, and it is a testament to how much a space affects the psyche. I am so happy with this new place. This morning I made breakfast, natto with with and mugicha, and I worked on my computer in the sparkling light from my rounded windows. I can’t wait to be here every day.
At least until the month ends.
FIND ME ON
Monday Updates is a section of this blog where I’m letting my hair down, figuratively. I am often preoccupied with getting things perfect, rather than simply sharing and enjoying the process while talking about life. Instead of the tradition of hating Mondays, I’m going to try to associate them with creative freedom and allow myself to speak my mind without the worry that a perfectionist usually has. Things here may be a bit disjointed, incomplete, and occasionally nonsensical, but they may also be playful, curious, and whimsical. I will do my best to make it more of the latter.
Upon living in Mexico are there any states in the US that you still would like to visit?
